Deploying and Operating Distributed DBs in Containers – A Cassandra Story

December 12 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Do you love containers? Well, so do we! You know what we love more?…Deploying distributed data stores in containers.

Why? Because containers provide a streamlined way of deploying data-centric workloads by balancing scale, speed, and isolation.

What?! You thought containers were only for stateless apps? Not anymore. Did you know that 7 out of the 10 top downloaded Docker images are data stores?

As you heard at our last Meetup … Today the industry is pushing ahead solving the challenges of data persistence in containers.

Join us for another great meetup, led by Aaron Spiegel – Dell Developer Advocate. Aaron will join us to lead a discussion on deploying and operating Distributed DBs on new container platforms, focusing on Cassandra as a use case. But of course he can discuss all things data persistence in containers.

Aaron Spiegel is a Developer Advocate and CTO with Dell EMC, focusing on ScaleIO Software Defined Storage. Aaron’s technical focus spans emerging trends in computing, including containers and container orchestration, platform as a service, next generation data fabrics and analytics platforms. Aaron’s core focus is to drive IT and digital transformation through modernization of application development practices, IT architectures and software defined storage.
Aaron is vocal open source supporter and a Dell EMC {code} catalyst with 20 years of diverse industry experience across application development and enterprise infrastructure. He is a frequent speaker at application development and industry forums, including Dell EMC World and DockerCon, on topics of cloud native application development, database architecture principles and cloud computing. He is the primary maintainer of a number of Dell EMC open source projects. He has patents pending for streaming database design and full-text search.
Aaron has been a student of application architectures and technology trends and behaviors since the late 90’s, and has worked with public cloud infrastructure for around10 years. He is adept at assisting customers in technical evolution and a longer term strategic outlook, as well as for a shorter term tactical application and infrastructure architecture.
