The Columbia Girls in STEM initiative came to Miami last week, introducing 23 girls from the Boys & Girls Club of Miami-Date to a variety of STEM instruction. The week-long curriculum started on Monday, 7/16 and took place at the Hardrock Stadium, the home of the initiative’s executive sponsor, the Miami Dolphins.
The Girls in STEM initiative, led by Columbia University, is coming to Miami. The program, launched by Columbia University’s School of Professional Studies, is in its second year and will be taking place in 4 cities across the nation including San Francisco, Washington D.C., New York City and Miami. The program aims to address the gender gap seen in STEM fields and encourage underrepresented high school students to consider entering a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) field.
Beyond HTML, CSS, and WordPress, Elizabeth Becker, Client Partner and Tech Recruiter at the software recruiting company PROTECH, suggests going open-source.
“As a manager, you should never expect those below you to put in extra hours when you’re not doing the same. Given your position, you may be able to negotiate a better deal for yourself, but it could cause a ripple effect when others see that you’re working fewer hours,” says Elizabeth Becker, a recruiting expert and client partner for Protech, a Florida tech staffing firm specializing in executive, tech sales and IT positions.
Tech companies, specifically in the cyber security space, are preparing for stricter regulations in light of the new order.
